Wildlife at Indigo Run

Nature Abounds in and Around Our Community

Back to Local Area Info

Few places can compete with Hilton Head for nature lovers. Wildlife abounds on land, in lagoons and in the ocean. Indigo Run is centrally located to many of the Island's public parks, pathways, and major waterways. If you are a nature lover, check with the Coastal Discovery Museum for nature walks, kayaking, and bird watching programs at Honey Horn Plantation. Don't forget to sign up for our community nature tours as they occur!

Shore Birds

Great blue herons, snowy egrets, wood storks, American oystercatchers, and roseate spoonbills frequent the lagoon edges and Broad Creek shoreline throughout the year.

Inland Birds

Red-tailed hawks, barred owls, painted buntings, and Carolina wrens nest in Indigo Run's mature tree canopy. The rookery on Otter Creek is a spectacular seasonal gathering.

Lagoon Wildlife

American alligators, river otters, largemouth bass, and soft-shell turtles share our 46 lagoons. Catch-and-release fishing is a popular community pastime.
